SpecAUV® BP-1

  • INCI Name: Benzophenone-1
  • Recommended use: Between 0.5% and 5%.

Benzophenone-1 is a UV filter mainly used to protect cosmetic formulations from degradation by UV rays. It plays an essential role in preserving the color, texture and efficacy of products containing photosensitive ingredients.

Properties

  • Effective UV filter against UVA and UVB rays
  • Prevents degradation of formulations exposed to light

Regulations

  • In Europe, Benzophenone-1 is regulated in cosmetics under European Directive 1223/2009. Its use is restricted and it must not be used as a primary UV filter, but can be included for formula stabilization.
  • In the United States, the FDA also imposes restrictions on its use in cosmetics and personal care products.

SpecAUV® BP-3

  • INCI Name: Benzophenone-3
  • Recommended use: Between 0.5 and 5%.

Benzophenone-3, also known asOxybenzone, is a highly effective UV filter that protects the skin against damage caused by UVA and UVB rays. It is frequently used in suncare products and other cosmetics.

Properties

  • Absorbs both UVA and UVB rays.
  • Protects skin against premature aging and UV damage.
  • Light-stable and compatible with many other active ingredients.

Regulations

  • In Europe, the maximum concentration authorized in cosmetic products is 6% as a UV filter (Annex VI of European cosmetics regulations).
  • In the United States, the FDA permits its use in sunscreen products at a maximum concentration of 6%.
  • Environmental restrictions: The use of Benzophenone-3 is banned in certain regions (such as Hawaii and Palau) due to its potential negative impact on coral reefs.

SpecAUV® BP-4

  • INCI Name: Benzophenone-4
  • Recommended use: between 0.5 and 5%.

Benzophenone-4, or Sulisobenzone, is a water-soluble UV filter used mainly in water-based cosmetics. It protects against UVB and some UVA rays.

  • Water-soluble, ideal for water-based formulations.
  • Absorbs UVB and some UVA.
  • Used in suncare, hair care and other products to protect against sun damage.

Regulations

  • In Europe, the maximum authorized concentration is 5% in cosmetic products.
  • In the United States, the FDA permits its use in sunscreen products at a maximum concentration of 10%.
  • Environment: Like Benzophenone-3, Benzophenone-4 may also be subject to local restrictions to preserve the marine environment.
